Its getting hot in NELA! We all love spending the sunny days of summer outdoors with our furry family members, but hot weather can lead to overheating if you aren't careful. We've put together a list of precautions provided by the ASPCA to keep your pet safe during the summer months.

-
Keep a constant supply of fresh, clean water.
-
Don't let your dog linger on hot asphalt.
-
Never leave your animals in a parked vehicle.
-
Don't shave your dog- fur helps protect your pup from sunburn and insect bites!

In addition to these general rules, it's important to know that dogs with flat faces, like Bulldogs and Pugs, are more susceptible to heat stroke since they cannot pant as effectively.

Symptoms of overheating in pets include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, drooling, weakness or even collapse.
